ANDY BUTLER IN SANTA CRUZ.DOC
LOCAL MUSICIAN TO BE BEAMED IN FOR AMERICAN FESTIVAL
Renowned Loop Guitarist Andy Butler will be creating history soon by performing at a festival in Santa Cruz, but from the comfort of his home in Norwich.
Andy will be performing at the Y2K6 festival as part of a duo with Wind Synthesizer man Ted Killian.
However, while Killian will be appearing in person at the Loop festival, Andy will be playing his hauntingly beautiful and mesmerising Guitar parts, from his front room.
Utilising internet technology Andy concedes that this broadcast, which can be listened to by scores of people world wide is not without its potentially hazardous moments.
Both musicians will hear each other one bar later, and while this is a dangerous way of playing live Andy is excited by the fact that he is “pushing technology to the limit”.
Last year he travelled to Santa Cruz, played live at the festival, and received an official thank you for doing so from the local Mayor. However, this year he chose to broadcast from home as it “cuts down on unnecessary travelling, and is much better for the environment”.
While admitting that this is a pioneering approach to playing live Andy states that the necessary equipment is easily available, and hopes that many other musicians will take the same approach.
Andy will be joined for part of the broadcast by No Man singer Tim Bowness who will add improvised vocal parts to the Evenings performance.
Should you wish to listen to the concert you can do so by going to www.andybutler.com and following a link to the live show. Andy will commence playing his 50 minute set some time between 8.30 and 9pm English time on Sunday 22nd October.
Who knows, this unique concert could prove to be a blueprint for the shape of things to come in the near future.
